Maintain proper tension on bulldozer tracks

How to maintain a Bulldozer: If the tension is too high, the spring tension of the guide pulley acts on the track pin and the pin sleeve. The outer circle of the pin and the inner circle of the pin bushing are subjected to great compressive stress, and the pin and pin bushing will wear prematurely in operation. The spring force of the guide wheel tensioning spring also acts on the guide wheel shaft and bushings, generating large surface contact stress, which makes the guide wheel bushings easily worn into half circles and the track spacing easily stretched, which will reduce the mechanical transmission efficiency and waste the power delivered by the engine to the drive wheels and tracks.

If the track tension is too loose, the track will easily break away from the guide wheel and support wheel, and the track will lose the correct alignment, causing fluctuation, jumping and impact of the track in operation, resulting in abnormal wear of the guide wheel and support wheel.


Keep the guide wheel in the center position

The position of the guide wheel is not centered, which will have a serious impact on other running mechanism parts. Therefore, adjusting the clearance between the guide wheel guide plate and the track frame is the key to extend the life of the running mechanism. When adjusting, use the shim between the guide plate and bearing to correct it. If the clearance is large, remove the gasket; if the clearance is small, add the gasket.

During the wear process of track pin and pin sleeve, the track spacing is gradually elongated, resulting in poor engagement between driving wheel and pin sleeve, leading to damage of pin sleeve and abnormal wear of driving wheel teeth, which will result in snaking, flipping and impact. It greatly shortens the life of the walking mechanism. When the pitch cannot be restored by adjusting the tension, it is necessary to flip the track pin and pin sleeve over to obtain the correct track pitch. There are two ways to judge the overturning of track pin and pin sleeve on site: one way is to check whether the track pitch is elongated by 3mm; the other way is to check whether the outer diameter of pin sleeve is worn by 3mm.


Tighten the bolts and nuts in time

When the bolts of walking mechanism are loose, they are easy to be broken or lost, causing a series of failures. The following bolts should be checked for daily maintenance: the mounting bolts of the support wheel and support wheel, the mounting bolts of the drive gear tooth block, the mounting bolts of the track shoe, the mounting bolts of the roller guard, and the mounting bolts of the diagonal brace head.
