(1) Maintain proper tension of the track

For Tracked Bulldozers, if the tension is too high, the spring tension of the guide wheel will act on the track pin and pin bushing. The spring force of the wheel tension spring also acts on the guide wheel shaft and bushings, generating large surface contact stress, making the guide wheel bushings easy to grind into semicircle and the track pitch easy to elongate, reducing the mechanical transmission efficiency and wasting the engine power transmission to the drive wheels and tracks.

If the track is tightened too loosely, the track will easily detach from the guide wheel and supporting wheel, which will cause the track to lose proper alignment and cause the running track to fluctuate, slap and hit, resulting in abnormal wear of the guide wheel and idler wheel.

The adjustment of track tension is done by filling the grease nozzle of the tensioning cylinder or releasing grease from the nozzle, referring to the standard clearance of each model. When the track pitch is stretched to the point where a set of track links needs to be removed, abnormal wear can occur on the teeth of the drive wheel and pin bushing. In this case, appropriate treatment should be carried out before the engagement condition deteriorates, such as pin bushing tipping over, replacing worn pin bushing, replacing track joint assembly, etc.


(2) Keep the guide wheel aligned

The misalignment of the guide wheel has a serious impact on other parts of the running mechanism, so adjusting the clearance between the guide wheel guide plate and the track frame is the key to prolonging the life of the running mechanism. When adjusting, use the shim between the guide plate and bearing for correction. If the clearance is large, remove the shim; if the clearance is small, increase the shim. The standard clearance is 0.5 to 1.0mm, and the maximum allowable clearance is 3.0mm.


(3) Turn the track pin and pin sleeve at the right time

During the wear process of the track pin and pin sleeve, the track pitch gradually lengthens, resulting in poor engagement between the drive wheel and the pin sleeve, leading to damage to the pin sleeve and abnormal wear of the drive wheel teeth, which may lead to hunting, slapping and impact. Greatly shorten the life of the walking mechanism. When adjusting the tension does not restore the pitch, the track pin and pin bushing need to be flipped to obtain the correct track pitch. In the field, there are two ways to determine the torque for turning the track pin and pin sleeve; one way is to check the time when the track pitch is extended by 3mm; the other way is to check the time when the outside diameter of the pin sleeve is worn by 3mm.


(4) Tighten bolts and nuts in time

When the bolt of the travel mechanism is loose, it is easy to break or lost, causing a series of failures. Daily inspection and maintenance should check the following bolts: supporting and idler pulley mounting bolts, active pulley teeth mounting bolts, track plate mounting bolts, track supporting pulley guard mounting bolts, and diagonal brace head mounting bolts. Please refer to the manual of each model for the tightening torque of the main bolts.


(5) Timely lubrication

The lubrication of the travel mechanism is very important. Many roller bearings are "burned", charging is not caused by oil leakage. Generally speaking, the following five places are prone to oil leakage: due to poor or damaged O-ring between the retaining ring and the shaft, oil leakage from the outer side of the retaining ring and the shaft; due to poor contact between the floating ring or O-ring defects, oil leakage between the outer side of the floating ring and the support wheel ; due to poor O-ring between the support wheel and the bushing, resulting in oil leakage between the rollers; due to oil leakage at the oiling plug due to loose oiling plug or damaged seat hole sealed by conical screw plug; oil leakage between the cover and the roller due to bad O-ring. Therefore, attention should be paid to checking the above-mentioned parts and adding and replacing them regularly according to the lubrication cycle of each part.


(6) Checking cracks

Cracks in the travel mechanism should be inspected and repaired and reinforced in time.
